Memes
/lit/‘s “meme trilogy”.
/lit/ has several memes, most of which are pure cancer used in lieu of valuable commentary, or even intelligent humor, both of which the board is almost entirely devoid of. These memes have become so seamlessly integrated into the culture of the board that it is often difficult to differentiate between a meme and a sincere statement. Posts that are memes as opposed to sincere are difficult to identify, since they are both characterized by redundancy, incorrectness, poor taste, and a total lack of pertinence to geniune literary subject matter.
Some theorists have divided /lit/ phenomena into categories, namely “memes” and “non-memes,” but a quick perusal of the lists provided below prove that these distictions are somewhat arbitrary and broadly uncomprehended.
List of memes
- “bugs.. easy on the carrots”
- Slavoj Žižek
- The Retroactive Refutation
- David Foster Wallace
- John Green
- The “Corn Father”
- “Subvocalizing”
- Misattributing quotes
- Denouncing translations
- “holy…i want more”
- my diary desu
- Corncob McCarthy
- Pinecone
- The Literary Lifestyle
- Hadn’t Any Talent
- Harold Bloom
- Max Stirner
- Why Don’t Women Appreciate Genius?
- Chad Thundercock
- Arse Full of Farts
- Disturbingly Calmly
- Huge Orson Welles
- /lit/ Elitist Guy
- Pretentious High School Guy
- Electrical Infetterance Copypasta
- Fake title drops
- Gene Wolfe
- Oats
- Start with the Greeks
- Meme Trilogy
Non-memes
Certain recurring topics on /lit/ appear to be memes, but are in fact simply brought up repeatedly by idiots who belong on other boards. They include:
- Rene Guenon (PBUH)
- Adi Shankara
- Charles Bukowski
- 1984 by George Orwell
- Claiming that Ayn Rand is good
- Reasserting that Ayn Rand is bad
- Autism theories
- Genre fiction (sffg)
- William H. Gass
Category:Browse
This is our top-level category; looking at it another way, it is the root category.
Ideally, every other category should be a subcategory of at least one other, and every article should be in at least one category; many will fit well into two or more (e.g. location, year, and subject-matter).
The “Content” category is intended for all articles about the subject matter of the wiki, whilst “Organisation” is intended for all administrative matters. A full list of existing categories can be found at Special:Categories.
To add a new category to a page, just add [[Category:Categoryname]] to the end of the article or existing category page.
